The Dominican Republic is increasingly becoming a favored destination for French tourists, with significant growth in visitor numbers from France. During the recent IFTM Top Resa tourism fair in Paris, Tourism Minister David Collado emphasized the strategic role of France in the Dominican tourism market.
With 132,747 French visitors recorded last year and a 14.3% increase in the first eight months of 2026, the Dominican Republic is keen to strengthen its ties with this key European market.
Growth in French Tourist Arrivals
The Dominican Republic has seen a remarkable increase in the number of French tourists visiting its shores. In 2025, the country welcomed 132,747 visitors from France, positioning it as the ninth largest source market for tourists. This upward trend continued into 2026, with 112,056 French tourists arriving in the first eight months alone, reflecting a growth rate of 14.3% compared to the same period in 2025.
This growth is not only a testament to the allure of the Dominican Republic as a travel destination but also highlights the effectiveness of the country's marketing strategies in attracting European tourists. The government and tourism officials are optimistic that this trend will continue, especially with the introduction of new direct flights and increased connectivity.
Strategic Participation in IFTM Top Resa
At the IFTM Top Resa tourism fair held in Paris, the Dominican Republic showcased its diverse tourism offerings and strategic partnerships. Minister David Collado highlighted the importance of strengthening alliances with industry partners to enhance connectivity and promote the country as a multifaceted destination.
With over 21 exhibitors, including hotel chains, airlines, and tour operators, the Dominican presence at the fair reflects the strength and diversity of its tourism sector. The participation aims not only to attract more French tourists but also to establish long-term relationships with European travel agencies and tour operators.
Enhancing Air Connectivity
One of the key focuses of the Dominican Republic's participation in IFTM Top Resa is to enhance air connectivity for European travelers. The introduction of new direct flights is set to make travel to the Dominican Republic more accessible and appealing.
Air Caraïbes is expanding its operations to three Dominican airports: Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, and Samaná. Additionally, Air France will strengthen its direct connection between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Punta Cana starting November 30, 2026, with three weekly flights. Furthermore, ITA Airways from Italy will launch a direct route from Rome Fiumicino to Santo Domingo, starting on the same date, with plans to increase frequencies shortly thereafter.
